When applying to the curriculum & Instruction, Ed.D. program, you will need to submit several documents for review.

Please share the story behind your decision to pursue doctoral studies in the Department of Middle and Secondary Education. In your narrative, help us understand what brings you to this moment and how you see yourself growing through this next chapter of graduate study.
Who You Are: What personal, academic, and professional experiences have led you to pursue doctoral study?
What You Bring: How have you collaborated with others across roles, disciplines, or communities, and how have those What You Are Seeking: What are your research interests or driving questions and why is this significant?
Why Here, Why Us, Why Now: What aspects of this doctoral program (e.g. faculty, community, research priorities, and/or values) resonate with your vision and goals for the future?
Your statement should be 1,500–2,000 words and offer us insight into who you are, what drives your curiosity, and how you imagine your work contributing to the field of education. Feel free to use the prompt headings above to help organize your personal statement.

- Two professional letters of reference ( (identify your recommenders on the application – the application system will send an email notification to your recommenders to secure their letter of recommendation for you)
- Writing Sample (Upload a sample of academic writing from a previous graduate level course or publication. This sample should reflect your potential for advanced graduate study, etc.)
- Must have at least one master’s or Ed.S. degree in education or closely related field (at least one degree must be in area of concentration or applicant must have substantial years teaching in area of concentration)
- Must have three years teaching experience (students who plan to pursue the curriculum and instruction certification and certificate upgrades must have at least a T4 teaching certificate – upload teaching certificate to application)
- Official Transcript(s): minimum 3.30 graduate GPA required for admission; submit official transcripts from all colleges/universities attended either electronically to [email protected] or by mailing directly to Georgia State University | Office of Graduate Admissions | P.O. - GRE scores: institution code 5251; scores may not be more than five years old at time of application

Interviews will be conducted by department faculty — you will be notified if you are selected for an interview (music education includes a demonstration of musical skill; art education includes portfolio).
